Capital Area School of Practical Nursing currently offers an accelerated nine-month program that is divided into four quarters which must be taken in sequence. This program consists of 868 theory hours and 462 clinical hours, for a total of 1330 hours of instruction. Nursing theory hours are provided during the daytime hours, Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Clinical rotations are on a four to six week rotation and hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. No evening or weekend classes are available.

 

Two classes attend consecutively in the program. Students may enter the program in August or February each year. Students entering school in August will graduate in the summer, while students entering in February will complete the program in December. The school closes for legal holidays, and winter and spring break for approximately a week.

 

Upon completion of the program, students will receive a certificate and are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-PN examination and upon passing obtain an LPN license with the State of Illinois. State licensure data are reported by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation and list the number of candidates who successfully pass the NCLEX-PN examination on their first try. Currently, CASPN has a 89% pass rate!
